Welcome New Students 2026 !

The Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics is delighted to welcome a new cohort of students to its MTech (Instrumentation Systems), MTech (Quantum Technology), MTech (Research), and PhD programmes.

In his address at the recently conducted orientation program, the Chair of the department, Prof. Sanjiv Sambandan, shared four simple yet powerful messages that will hopefully guide the students throughout their journey at IISc:

1. Uphold honesty and integrity.
Be truthful in all your academic and professional pursuits and let integrity be the cornerstone of everything you do.

2. Compete with yourself.
IISc is home to some of the brightest minds, and it is easy to get caught up in comparisons. Instead, focus on your own growth. Measure yourself against who you are at this very moment, keep learning, and strive to become a better version of yourself every day.

3. Show up every day.
No matter the challenges you face, don’t give up. Progress is built through consistency, and small steps taken every day eventually lead to meaningful achievements.

4. Prioritise your well-being.
Above all else, take care of yourself – both mentally and physically. No achievement is worth pursuing at the cost of your well-being.

These words of wisdom are a fitting beginning for an energetic and talented group of students embarking on a new chapter. We look forward to seeing them grow, explore, innovate, and achieve their dreams, and hope that the department and IISc continue to provide an environment that nurtures their aspirations.

Welcome aboard, and we wish you all the very best for the exciting journey ahead!
