Research Programs

The department offers two research programmes which lead to award of Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg.)
Here we provide brief information about eligible criteria to get admitted into different programmes. However, we suggest you to visit IISc admissions page for further information

Eligibility for admissions to Ph.D./M.Sc. (Engg.)

M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. (Engg.) degree holders*

Considered only for Ph.D. programme. It is not mandatory to clear any entrance examinations like NET (CSIR-UGC), GATE, IISc test, etc. You may be asked to attend an interview for final selection.
However, selection of shortlisted candidates for interview is purely decided by selection committee.

M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders*

Any one of the national tests, such as Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF (candidates who cleared NET for lectureship (LS) only are NOT eligible to apply)/GATE (with valid score card in the validation period)/IISc Entrance Test. will be considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M.Sc. (Engg.) programme based on their performance in the interview by the interview board.

B.E./B.Tech. degree holders^$

GATE (with valid score card in the validation period)/IISc Entrance Test. will be considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M.Sc. (Engg.) programme based on their performance in the interview by the interview board.

* in Physical Sciences, Materials Science, Instrumentation (or) Electronics.
$ in any discipline.
