Admissions

The department offers two research programmes which lead to award of Ph.D., M.Sc. (Engg.) and a course programme which leads to award of M.Tech. degree.

Here we provide a brief information about eligible criteria to get addmission into different programmes. However, we suggest you to visit IISc addmissions page for further information.

Eligibility to admissions to Ph.D / M.Sc (Engg)

M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. (Engg.) degree holders*

Considered only for Ph.D. programme. It is not mandatory to clear any entrence examinations like NET (CSIR-UGC), GATE, IISc test, etc. You may ask to attend an interview for final selection.
However, selection of shortlisted candidates for interview is purely decided by selection committee.

M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders*

Any one of the national tests, such as Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF (candidates who cleared NET for lectureship (LS) only are NOT eligible to apply)/GATE (with valid score card in the validation peiod)/IISc Entrance Test. will be considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M.Sc. (Engg.) programme based on their performance in the interview by the interview board.

B.E./B.Tech. degree holders$

GATE (with valid score card in the validation peiod)/IISc Entrance Test. will be considered for admissions to Ph.D. programme or M.Sc. (Engg.) programme based on their performance in the interview by the interview board.

* in Physical Sciences, Materials Science, Instrumentation (or) Electronics.
$ in any discipline.

Eligibility for admissions to M.Tech.

B.E./B.Tech. (OR) M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders#

All the candidates should qualify GATE (with valid score card in the validation peiod). Final selection list may be prepared by selection committee based on GATE score and other criteria as per IISc/IAP selection procedure.

# B.E./B.Tech.: in Instrumentation (IN) or Instrumentation & Control Engineering (IN) or Electronics & Instrumentation/Electronics (IN).

M.Sc. (non-Engg.): with specialization in Instrumentation/Electronics.
