RESEARCH PROGRAMME
The Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics offers two research degrees – M. Tech (Research) and Ph.D.
M. Tech Research: The normal duration of the M. Tech (Res) programme is 2 years, allowing a max of 2.5 years. A student enrolled in this programme is expected to enrol for a minimum of 12 RTP credits and maintain a minimum CGPA of 7. A student holding a CGPA of more than 8 is allowed to continue for a PhD if they are interested, provided the advisor consents to the same.
PhD: A student joining the PhD programme directly after a bachelor degree is required to complete a minimum of 24 credits of RTP coursework and maintain a CGPA of 7 to be eligible for the comprehensive examination. A student joining the PhD programme after a post-graduate degree (MSc or MTech or equivalent degrees) is required to complete 12 credits of RTP course work, while maintaining a minimum CGPA of 7 to be eligible for the comprehensive examination. The normal duration of a PhD is 5 years, with a max duration of 6 years, beyond which registration is cancelled.
The RTP courses in the research programme are taken by the student in consultation with his/her research advisor.
