Health Technology Assessment of AI and Digital Health Technologies

Date/time: 16 January 2026, Friday, 9.30 am – 6.00 pm

Venue: S V Narasaiah Auditorium, IAP Department

About the Workshop: To understand the fundamentals of health technology assessment (HTA) and its role in health system decision-making, while highlighting the growing importance of conducting HTA studies on artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled health technologies. With the rapid growth of AI tools in healthcare, there is a need for systematic and context-specific HTA to assess their clinical value, cost-effectiveness, and broader health system impact. HTA integrates expertise from health economics, clinical medicine, biostatistics, ethics, and health systems research to ensure that AI technologies deployed in public health programmes deliver demonstrable health gains, represent value for money, and do not exacerbate inequities or system-level risk. The workshop will also explore key methodological, ethical, and policy considerations for conducting HTA of AI technologies in the Indian context.
